Job Description:

Position Summary: The Family Educator develops plans and presents parenting/caregiver classes, playgroups, forums, and support groups under the auspices of the Family Resource Center. This position is funded through a grant from First Things First.

Develops class content, lesson plans and curriculum utilizing various parenting/early childhood curricula.

Conducts parenting classes in Spanish and English in various locations throughout the northwest valley.

Interacts with young children, consults with parents, and serves as a role model for positive parenting techniques

Provides information to parents regarding various parenting and child development issues and concerns, and makes referrals to service providers as appropriate.

Participates in training family education staff, other staff and volunteers.

Participates in selection and ordering books and program materials.

Documents information; utilizes databases to maintain client information; completes reports and participates in program evaluations.

Assists in marketing parenting programs and other programs of the Family Resource Center. Attends staff and community meetings as requested.

Participates in BFRC special events and prepares child appropriate activities.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Experience and Skills:

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor Degree in Early Childhood Development; Education or closely related field. Five or more years teaching experience or 5 years working with young children and parents. Fluent in reading, writing and speaking English and Spanish. The selected candidate must have the ability to work a flexible schedule: days, some evenings and some Saturdays. Must possess the ability to travel independently in the northwest valley, including Surprise, El Mirage, Peoria, Youngtown, Glendale, Sun City, and Sun City West.

Required to possess a valid Arizona Driver’s License.
